Detroit’s Rogue Satellites have had a prolific post-punk career since their inception in 2011. With two full-length records and a slough of EP’s and singles under their belts their sound has managed to evolve and stay fresh with each of their releases. Nearly 3 years after their last album, the two-piece, made up of Jaye Thomas and Lisa Poszywak, have crafted a very personal new record that reflects on these dark and trying times. Today we’re thrilled to share the first single from their upcoming album Black Wings.
The song, “Bog Dog in the Breezeway” is a slow-burning psych jam that tells a tale of disconnection between two people that are just not on the same drugs. What drug that is is really up to you. Is it even a drug? Or just a metaphor for people with different points of view? Analyze it for yourself or just get lost in this groove; premiering today for the first time, exclusively on MWA!
You’re probably asking yourself “what the hell is a ‘bog dog'” at this point. The inspiration for the song came when singer/guitarist Jaye Thomas received a cryptic message at work, “Do Not Enter Breezeway. Bog Dog!” He understood this was a typo, but laughed and thought, “Bog dog in the breezeway? Are there mermen on the mezzanine?” and thus Bog Dog was born.
A psychedelic parable inspired by a typographical error. The suicide of a friend. The awkward outburst that read like black comedy at his funeral. An uptick of exposed sex offenders. The fiery death and slow rebirth of a Detroit landmark. These ideas and more, color the dark sarcasm of Black Wings.
Black Wings is available in its entirety on July 13th on Limited Edition Cassette tape via Midwest Action and 12″ white vinyl via Detroit’s Space Camp Records.
