It’s been over 2 years since I first laid needle to groove on Calliope’s last release Orbis. Their latest lathe cut single “Astral Hand” was well worth the wait.

Channeling the heart and soul of Syd Barrett era Floyd, “Astral Hand” is a groovy trip that dives right in with a psychedelic melange of arpeggiated guitars and ethereal keys.  The band has shed some of the blues-psych vibe that was peppered throughout Orbis in favor of a straight up ’60s psychedelic drone, and it is working.

The self-released lathe cut single is available in a VERY limited run of just 50 copies. Pick it up in person during their Astral Hand Summer Tour or head over to bandcamp if mail-order is your thing.

The tour kicks off this Friday 8/19 in Chicago with Killer Moon and Red Francis at the city’s foremost arcade bar, Emporium in Wicker Park. Catch Calliope as they make they way through the midwest and back for a rad hometown show at Boone Row 2016!
