Give It a Spin: “Grow Your Garden” by Brett Newski

Milwaukee’s Brett Newski is prolific in many ways, and his music output is one of them. After getting kicked out of Wal-Mart–a life event that we’re sure sent the musician reeling–Newski is showing those fun-hating nerds he’s on the up-and-up with “Grow Your Garden.”

In a track with a decidedly folk base, the addition of electric guitar transforms it into an anthem of individualism and self-care. His vocals have a raw, vintage feel with a touch of distortion to them.

Of the track, Newski shares the following on his Bandcamp page:

The world is more competitive than ever and people are feeling inferior to their peers, whether they are at the top of the mountain or the depths of the lurch. “Grow Your Garden” is a song about taking care of yourself in manic times. It’s about ignoring the traps of comparison that the internet brings to the mayhemic modern world.
