Watch This: “Winning” by Dirty Dancing – Video Premiere

Milwaukee’s Dirty Dancing artfully mix dark post-punk vibes and angular guitar riffs into a sound all their own. Their sophomore album That For This came out earlier this month via Gloss Records and not only does it feature some of our favorite album art ever but the content contained within it is a real treat for the ears.

Lucky for us, the band has some more visual treats in the form of a new music video for the song “Winning” premiering today only on MWA!

Watch it below:

“Winning” is surely one of the catchier songs on the album—with its belted out chorus “To win you gotta beat someone,” the song showcases the band’s ability to blend deadpan lyrics with twangy, percussive guitar licks.

Led by primary songwriter Eric Schoen, the band has seen innumerable lineup changes in its decade-long existence. The current lineup of Schoen (Guitar/Lead vocals), Neil Larson (Guitar/Vocals), Max Williamson (Bass/Vocals), and Travis McDonnell (Drums) coalesced in the fall of 2017 to begin work on That For This with producer Harrison Colby.

The year and a half of on-again, off-again recording sessions formed the album’s raw, angular sound—with stark and multi-faceted statements on chance, loss, love, and consumerism. “The entire music experience, from performing to buying and selling records, is a transaction between audience and artist, like an abstract conversation,” says Schoen. This kind of detached stoicism permeates the band’s sound, especially on songs like “Winning”.
