Looking for an MC for your upcoming funeral or bar mitzvah? Sunglow‘s got your back.
To my absolute delight, Sunglow and New Trash have partnered once again, producing a new music video that’s fascinatingly weird and very pro-pencil mustache. Once again, they do not disappoint and have delivered the incredibly professional promotional advertisement that is “Certify My Love,” premiering today exclusively on Midwest Action.
The video is a throwback to the days of VHS tapes and perfectly off-putting 3D animations. Borderline monotone vocals sit amidst washy synths that gradually become more and more warped as the video progresses (and as the video gets warped itself). I expected nothing less from this “weird pop” musician.
When asked about the video’s creative direction, New Trash offered the following thoughts:
With “Certify My Love,” our goal was to strip things back to basics – just the two of us and a camera. We wanted to play around with the idea of framing the video under the authorship of somebody else, and Richie Adelman, a 13-year old videographer in the mid-90s – was a fun creative prospect.
We’ve worked with Alexandra Miller across numerous projects and were really excited to develop a crazy-specific character for her to play around with. The whiz-bang showmanship she brings to Merv DiCola takes the character to the next level. She actually does play the clarinet too, which is awesome.
Nothing says “Valentines Day” like Merv DiCola! Check it out below:
Of the video, Sunglow states:
“Certify My Love” is the ripe red strawberry centrepiece in the edible arrangement that is Sunglow’s Hog Heaven. My first real luv ballad divides the electrocuted collage of a mostly wordless album.
“Certify My Love” is off Sunglow’s 2018 LP, Hog Heaven, available at Furious Hooves.
