What Now? Dancing, of course. Sylvan Esso, the sultry electropop duo from South Carolina, hits the Midwest portion of their tour in mid September. The pair, Amelia Meath and Nick Sanborn, are touring in support of their recent album What Now and have sold out dates across the West Coast and southern states. Have no fear though, their Midwest and East Coast dates still have some tickets available.
What Now is Sylvan Esso’s second full length release and is full of enigmatic dance jams and moody lyrics. Meath’s vocals range from high and light to low and languishing, backed by Sanborn’s synth and electro-pop beats. The album finds itself centered around a series of not-quite love songs that feel most at home at an indie rock house party.
Stand out tracks on What Now include the radio single “Die Young,” a romantic dirge about sticking around to flame out with your loved one. Also notable is “Just Dancing,” a tune Meath wrote about the endless string of shifting faces you meet while online dating. I’ll be the girl awkwardly dancing to that at their Cleveland show on September 20th, though I’m guessing I won’t be the only one doing so.
Meath is often seen leading choreographed dance numbers in the band’s music videos and to be completely honest, I’m going to be more than a little disappointed if there isn’t some Janet Jackson style dance breaks in the middle of their live set at House of Blues Cleveland. Pick up tickets for the show here.
