Midwestern folk heroes Brett Newski and Carter Hulsey are again joining forces as they take off across the United States and Canada for their second annual Folk Catastrophe Tour. Kicking off tonight in Kansas, the tour snakes around a good portion of the Midwest before heading North for a few dates in Canada and finally a week on the East coast.
Currently residing in Milwaukee, Brett Newski spent a few years on the other side of the globe, residing in Thailand, Vietnam, Hong Kong and the Phillipines. It was there, far from the Midwest, that Newski composed the decidedly American folk songs that would make up his American Folk Armageddon LP. Released in May on MKE’s Good Land Records, you can pick up a copy of the ten-track release for just $10.
Joining Newski on this excursion is Joplin, MO alt-country singer-songwriter, Carter Hulsey. It’s no secret that I’m a fan of Carter’s work – check out my thoughts on his latest release, Drive Out. The musical progression that led Carter to his most earnest and heartfelt album yet has been inspiring to watch, and fans of the genre will feel right at home within the walls that Carter has built with Drive Out.
Brett & Carter will be visiting a good chunk of the Midwest over the next several weeks, so don’t miss an opportunity to catch them live if they’ll be in your neck of the woods. You can check out the full tour schedule below and find details on releases, shows and all that other good stuff on the guy’s websites.
