Minneapolis has a truly wonderful music scene which includes some of our favorite psych and shoegaze acts in the Midwest. The Cult of Lip certainly fit into that category. We’re pleased to share their new video for the song “Fog” today only on MWA.
The track is aptly titled, with a wall of washy guitars and repetitive drum groove taking the spotlight. The obscured vocals become another layer of sound in this swirling shoegaze tune. Guitar flourishes drenched in tremolo and reverb break up the drone at just the right times to bring you back to reality even for just a few seconds. The Cult of Lip are carrying on the tradition of My Bloody Valentine, The Jesus & Mary Chain, and other post-punk/shoegaze luminaries and putting their own modern spin on the sound.
The video was shot, edited and effected by video artist Tim Krause and pairs perfectly with the audio. For all you fans of Op Art, VHS tracking, and lots of static we present you with “Fog”, watch it below:
You can add the song to your record collection by picking up the 7″ EP through MPLS LTD. The band is also wrapping up a new EP called Sleep Receiver due out this September.
