Halloween may have come and gone, but that doesn’t stop Cleveland-based turntablist, p.stoops from creating spooky tunes year-round. “Specter”, the first track off his upcoming album, Ancient Computers, is a hat tip to the James Bond legacy. “It’s been a lifelong goal for me to write a James Bond theme song. So many of the tracks are infinitely cool songs that do so much for the film as well as work as great pop songs unto themselves. “Specter” (different spelling intentional) is my unsolicited take on the genre of Bond themes,” says p.stoops.
The haunting instrumentation of vintage vinyl samples, scratching and beats creates a sinister mood that will carry over into p.stoops’ newest album. “The idea of death and ghosts coincides with the thematic material for [Ancient Computers] and delves into the worlds of death and rejection.”
If you like what you’ve just heard, you can catch p.stoops live on November 20, 2015 at the Beachland Ballroom & Tavern opening for !!! (Chk Chk Chk) at 8:30 p.m. Purchase tickets ahead of time here.
