I’ve been chasing a Friday Pilots Club show for so long, ever since I discovered them last year. A song–”PRBLM”–randomly appeared on my Spotify playlist, and immediately I did what I do every time that I find a new band that I like: looked up the next show in Chicago. I didn’t have much luck until last month when they played at my favorite venue in the city, and oh man, they did not disappoint. It didn’t matter that it was a super cold night in Chicago (nothing new here), but it gives you an idea of the dynamic of this amazing music scene.
They were the final act of the night, and the venue was packed. Next to me, I overheard a girl saying, “My mom is gonna kill me, I was supposed to be at home 2 hours ago, but I don’t care, I need to stay and see them.” These guys are getting bigger and bigger. They put on a flawless performance, with Drew showing off his guitar skills and Caleb displaying his vocal range in full, my favorite show of 2019 so far.
The set list for the night was:
- PRBLM
- End of It
- God Fears Man
- Shades of Red
- Bad as Hell
- Glory – latest single
- Would You Mind
- Gold and Bones – my personal favorite
- Ain’t Your Son
I had the opportunity of getting impressions from Caleb about the show, he told me:
“It was an unbelievable night in the sense of the crowd that was there; our friends, some family, fans, new chicagoans we’ve never met before, all came together on what we thought was going to be a night drowned out by the bad weather and we all had a ball. The energy in the room was that energy you dream of the day you start playing shows. It was contagious and wild. One of those night I will remember for the rest of my life”.
Check out my photos from the show; I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed shooting the show.
