While in Chicago for the Do Division street festival, the Minneapolis-based band Bad Bad Hats stopped by Beat Kitchen for a more intimate performance. Before the show, it was fun seeing Kerry Alexander of BBHs interacting with fans and friends at the bar. After the openers, Star Tropics and Scout Ripley, Bad Bad Hats excitedly took the stage and started with their upbeat crowd-pleaser “Fight Song,” effectively setting the mood for the evening.
In addition to playing many hits from Psychic Reader, they played a few singles from their new album Lightning Round, which is soon to be released. Before playing the song “Nothing Gets Me High” from their new album, Kerry explained, “It is a sad and beautiful song about how no future love feels like the first time you fall in love.” The song featured a groovy baseline and showcased the growth of the band.
If you’re looking for genuinely fun music, Bad Bad Hats will not disappoint. Their sound is still fresh, yet also familiar, and in the best way.
