Kevin and Hell, BrBra Bush, Diagonal, and Eric Wallgren to Play at Midwest Action Winter Showcase

It’s that time of year, and we’re giving you the best gift we know how to give: our first annual Winter Showcase. The Midwest Action Winter Showcase is an opportunity for us to highlight the incredible bands, new and old, that we’ve put out, and this time around we’re focusing on four bands with 2018 releases. Break away from your family for a few hours and celebrate the holidays with us!

Eric Wallgren

Kicking off the night is Eric Wallgren, DIY scene veteran and lo-fi bedroom pop genius. His first solo release on MWA came out last summer and is still a perfect mix of drum machines, minimal production, and catchy guitar riffs.

Diagonal

Over summer, Diagonal released their debut full-length psych rock album, Tomorrow, and it swept the Midwest by storm. The group’s been able to mix garage and pop influences into their music, of course with their psychedelic seal-of-approval. The sextet will bring riffs and reverb to the stage at Schubas, along with a few groovy instrumental jams.

BrBra Bush

No, not THAT Bush―BrBra Bush the Funk/R&B collective that’s poised to sweep Chicago by storm. The soon-to-be-superstars will be debuting their live act on this very special evening. Expect a chorus of singers on stage, as well as guitars, bass, horns, percussion, organ, and a ton of dancing. For fans of Funkadelic, Prince, and marijuana-fueled Funk jams.

Kevin and Hell

Closing out this wonderfully diverse winter showcase is local Jazz cat Kevin and Hell. The ever prolific composer and guitarist released two fantastic albums back in October and we can’t wait to hear him and his band bring these tunes to life. Mixing traditional Jazz guitar licks with post-punk beats On Earth is one of the most unique records we’ve ever heard while the companion album Stairway To The Vast Realm of Possibility will satiate the needs of most discerning Jazz fans. Think Thelonius Monk meets Gary Numan, avant-garde pop with a twist of Jazz.
