Get your wigs and heels out of the closet, Hot Fruit is back.
The monthly showcase of the finest, shiniest, and badassiest queer and femme talents is starting their spring off right with an incredible night of music Friday, May 25th. Hosted by snack-rock chanteuse, Beverly Rage, the night is sure to be the hottest (and probably the fruitiest) shindig of the month.
Starting off the festivities are Super Sonic Space Rebels—a band once described as “If Debbie Harry fronted The Cramps, but was possessed by Dracula” and actually… that’s pretty damn accurate. Hear for yourself:
Bev Rage & The Drinks take the stage next and are sure to have a few Trix up their sleeves (probably some Coco Puffs too). Their snack-infused punk rock is infectious. The recent addition of Sam Westerling (Swimsuit Addition, The Iceberg) on bass rounds out the band perfectly and finds them sounding better than ever! Come hungry and pig-out on all of the snacks they throw your way.
Closing out the night strong are Chicago’s anti-punk, no-gaze darlings NO MEN. They continue to live up to their motto of “One bass, dueling vocals, dual drums. No ‘guitar rock’ allowed.” They channel the vocal styles of Siouxsie & The Banshees with some other major post-punk influences resulting in a heady mix of great songwriting and heavy jams.
The booze ship sets sail this Friday, May 25th at Reed’s Local. Doors open at 9pm, music starts at 10pm. A $5 donation will get you in and go straight to the bands. RSVP here and keep an eye out for more Hot Fruits events coming soon.
