Ester is the full-band incarnation of songwriter Anna Holmquist’s music, featuring Chris Colson, Will Hulseman, Jenn Romero, Katelyn Cohen and Raul Cotaquispe. Today we’re pleased to share with you “In The Evening”, a brand new song from their upcoming full length album Curtains.
The melancholic vocals and piano crescendo to a lush chorus of harmonies and acoustic guitar, perfectly accentuated by piano chords and the faint echo of a tambourine. The minimalist arrangement and production allow each instrument to shine through beautifully, especially the brilliant voice of Anna Holmquist. Hear for yourself below:
A frequent collaborator and important figure in the Chicago DIY music scene, Anna Holmquist formerly recorded under the name Night & Gale and currently adds her skills to local Jazz-Rock collective The Curls (who you may have noticed on this year’s Pitchfork Music Festival lineup.)
