Milwaukee Psych Fest VI has released the full lineup of artists to play at Milwaukee’s favorite summer fest. The festival will take place May 4-5, 2018 between two venues: Boone and Crocket & Company Brewing and tickets went on sale this evening!
Andrew Shelp, organizer of MPF VI and musician himself, never disappoints. Each year, he curates a festival that is diverse, yet still celebratory of the incredible mix of psychedelia to come out of the Midwest & beyond.
Moss Folk (Milwaukee, WI) | May 4, 8:40PM- STAGE I
Milwaukee’s Moss Folk bring their psych drone styling to Boone and Crockett’s Stage I. Their set at last year’s MPF was one of our favorites and they’re sure to have you transfixed with their free form jams.
White Shape (Rockford, IL) | May 4, 6:30PM – STAGE II
White Shape takes Stage II on Friday, and is sure to transform a humble venue into a reverb-drenched world. We dig their October release, Chromesthesia, and are hoping to hear more of these heavy psych jams at MPFVI.
Spiral Galaxy (Chicago, IL) | May 4, 5:20PM – STAGE II
The new astral folk experience from Steven Krakow aka Plastic Crimewave, Sara Gossett, and other collaborators combines traditional Indian tabla and sitar drones with PCW’s signature guitar attack. They’ve already toured Europe and are sure to put out a memorable set at MPF VI.
Vocokesh (Milwaukee, WI) | May 4, 4:00PM – STAGE II
Ah Vocokesh, Milwaukee’s modern day answer to Hawkwind. Spacey stoner rock you can bounce your head and even cut a rug too. I think these guys have played just about every MKE psych fest and they never disapoint.
Black Thumb (Appleton, WI) | May 5th, 12:00pm – STAGE I
Colin Wilde’s Spacemen 3 inspired solo act is a sight to be seen. Mixing vintage organs, guitar, electronic drums, and slough of other weird noises Colin manages to turn the whole damn place into a psychedelic dance party. His latest album It Is Well With My Soul was recently released on vinyl and damn is it good. We can’t wait for more Black Thumb this year!
Calliope (Milwaukee, WI) | May 5, 2:20PM
Milwaukee Psych Fest vets, Calliope, return for another year of keyboard-driven psychedelic mayhem. With their new album Chapel Perilous out on 3/31 we’re sure to hear plenty of fresh material from these Milwaukee natives.
Names Divine (Chicago/Milwaukee, WI) | May 5, 12:35PM
Right off the heels of their Chicago Psych Fest performance, Names Divine will take Company Brewing’s second stage on Day 2. The Milwaukee-Chicago based band is composed of many moving parts including lush 3 and 4 person harmonies, banjo, violin, and plenty of shoegazy guitar. Think Mazzy Star but a lot more psychedelic.
That is just a small sampling of the Midwestern acts featured on this year’s lineup, others include Axis:Sova (Chicago, IL), Magic Castles (Minneapolis, MN), Glyders (Chicago, IL), Wet Piss (Chicago, IL), and a ton of local Milwaukee acts.
Other national acts include the following:
- Liquid Light Show by Mad Alchemy (San Francisco, CA)
- Föllakzoid (Santiago, Chile)
- Wet Tuna (Vermont. Featuring Matt Valentine and P.G. Six)
- Chris Forsyth and the Solar Motel (Philadelphia, PA)
- Ash and Herb (Portland, ME)
- Dire Wolves (San Francisco, CA)
