Today, there’s new music coming out of Columbus, courtesy of Steven King. Recently, King assembled a gang of master maestros and crooners to make up his live backing band, breathing new life into his already dynamic and intimate compositions. Enter the newest track off of King’s upcoming album, “Seams Are Splitting.”
“Seams Are Splitting” is a deliberate track that floats between the singer-songwriter genre and folk rock. Lush and orchestrated, the verses follow a tight and steady rhythm section contrasting the meter at which King sings. The choruses are loud and exuberant, begging you to join in on vocals. Heavier than your standard indie-folk fare, the dark vantage point of reality that twists through King’s songs can only come from someone who lives every day a decade ahead of his time. He captures these experiences by wrangling them into hook-laden, sharp-toothed blasts, accompanied by intimate, melodic vocals that are really deserving of your attention–and “Seams Are Splitting” is no exception.
Of the new track, King shares the following:
‘Seams Are Splitting’ was the first track written for Steven King On Ice. It’s kind of a “list song” of observations and situations the listener shouldn’t have trouble putting themselves into. I brought it to (producer) Maddy Ciampa before the rest of the band had even heard it, and we worked out our vocal harmonies and the cello parts before adding the other instruments into the arrangement. It was also the first track we started working through together in her studio, and one of the songs we spent the most time on, I think that shows through the full instrumentation and cohesiveness of the recording.
“Seams Are Splitting” is a dynamic song in every sense of the word. Give it a spin below:
Steven King On Ice will be out November 29th.
