Many moons ago, you would have found me swooning to Phox‘s Confetti EP. Phox has since gone on hiatus, leaving me physically aching for singer Monica Martin‘s sultry vocals. You can imagine how absolutely elated I was to learn that the singer from Wisconsin is working on her solo material and released the first song from the forthcoming album, “Cruel”.
Minimal instrumentation brings her vocals to the forefront, and it grows into soft, dreamy orchestration. “Cruel” is a mesmerizing three-minute track that’s just what I needed to hold me over until we hear more from Monica.
Give it a spin below:
Burn away the sins you’ve been collecting
Won’t lie to you, I’m not that condescending
“Cruel” was produced by Eg White (Adele, Florence & The Machine, and Sam Smith) and will be released on Martin’s forthcoming EP, due out in 2019 on Republic Records.
