Today, Grand Rapids’ alt rock outfit Pretoria debut their newest track, “Cody Maverick,” exclusively with Midwest Action.
Right off the bat, Pretoria hook you in with a bouncy guitar melody. Airy vocals sit on top of a foundation of comfortable indie rock ala Someone Still Love You Boris Yeltsin. The verses are light and breezy, with crystal clean chords that ring out beautifully. A quick walk down leads to the chorus, which gives us something with a little more grit before heading back to the lightness of the verses. It’s this pleasant mix of surf rock and indie sensibilities that makes it a perfect summer jam.
