Glad Rags is a psychedelic orchestral pop ensemble from Chicago. Writing and arranging collaboratively, the band aims to subvert the popular song form while introducing lyrics and storytelling that challenge traditional pop music tropes.
The musical collective is a super group made up of queer and POC musicians, artists, educators, and activists who also perform with various local music mainstays such as: ONO, Esso, The Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Jovan Landry, Animal Farm, Sex No Babies, Byzmuti, and LUNXCH.
We’re pleased to bring you the first track from their upcoming album Wonder Under out via Midwest Action next month. Give “Alamo” a spin and hear why Glad Rags is one of the most unique and wonderful musical acts around.
Half of the band hails from the arts collective and co-op Hostel Earphoria, a hive-mind of creativity and exploration with its own record label and recording studio. This collaborative environment has fostered some of the most musically diverse music the Chicago music scene has ever witnessed. Glad Rags is riding this musical high into some beautiful new places.
“Alamo” is just a taste of what the Glad Rags family is capable of. Stay tuned for more details on the upcoming album Wonder Under out in late June.
