Lois Bielefeld of Milwaukee, Wisconsin photographs neighborhoods.
But there’s more to it than that–Lois photographs examine how an individual’s environment reflects back on them. Bielefeld’s past work looks at the way in which people shape their homes, a very controllable environment, but the environment outside of our control often has an even more profound effect on our character. Bielefeld states, “This is what I want to explore in Neighborhood, the things beyond our control that we find curious, irritating, or admirable”.
I love this series, I really do. From the vibrant color to the spot lit subjects, visually these photographs have it all. Conceptually, it’s interesting to how people are a reflection of their environments. Enjoy her work below, and leave your thoughts in the comments.
