After successfully raising over $8,500 via Kickstarter in late 2011 to fund its recording, Urbana, IL quartet, Grandkids, is preparing to release their debut LP on vinyl tonight at the Tonic Room. Officially released in March, Timeshare is getting the vinyl treatment with help from both Heirship and Jurassic Pop Records.
Wrapping up a 3 week tour in support of the album, Grandkids will be performing the record tonight in its entirety. Timeshare comes two full years after the group’s last EP, Sister Walls, but the gap in releases does not indicate a lack of productivity. In 2012, vocalist Vivian McConnell released the well-received LP, You’re Still A Lover with her other project, Santah.
Timeshare is without question, a beautifully written and arranged album. Its ten folk-infused indie-rock tracks are packaged neatly into a sweeping 43 minute journey led by McConnell’s dream-like vocals. Album standouts include “Engines”, “Collegiate Peaks”, and “Not This, Never This”.
If you can’t make it out tonight to pick up a copy of Timeshare, you can grab the vinyl from Grandkids’ Bandcamp page for just $15. If records aren’t your thing, you can always get the CD for $8 or a digital download for $6.
Presented by Wine From The Moon and Harmonica Dunn, the 21+ release show kicks off at 8:00 PM tonight at the Tonic Room – 2447 N Halsted. Tickets are $8, and can be picked up online through Ticketfly, or at the door before the show. Setting the stage for Grandkids are Carbon Tigers and Great Life.
