Barely out of the studio from recording their third LP and follow up to last year’s Great Ideas In Action, Chicago’s Archie Powell & the Exports are preparing to embark on an intimidating 22 night tour which kicks off this Thursday at the Subterranean. Heading South from Chicago, the group will make their way towards the East coast before wrapping up with a slot at the CMJ Music Marathon in New York.
I’ve been a big fan of Archie Powell & the Exports since the release of Great Ideas In Action last May, and have been fortunate enough to catch the group live on more than one occasion. Great Ideas, which includes the singles, “Crazy Pills”, “Job Fair”, and “Only So Much You Can Do”, is just a killer rock and roll record, and the guys have no problem translating that energy into their live show.
You can expect to hear a few of these tracks on Thursday along with a handful of new songs from the upcoming LP.
Thursday’s kick-off show opens at 7:30 at the Subterranean – 2011 W North Ave. The 17+ show will feature MG Bailey, The Elements of Style, and Fletcher setting the stage for Archie Powell & the Exports. Tickets are available for $10 and can be picked up online or at the door before the show.
Check out the rest of the fall tour dates below and do your best to get out to one of these shows!
