Chicago’s Big Syn make music that can easily be categorized as “avant-garde” but their new music video is a gorgeous mix of ’80s pop sensibilities and lush instrumentation. The song is the opening track from their debut LP It’s Awake and it’s full of tribal beats, melodic guitar, and layers of ambient synths. Floating on the top of it all are the powerful yet ethereal vocals of singer Tara Smith.
The song is truly addictive with plenty of earworms to keep you wanting to hear it over and over. Once that chorus hits you’ll be hooked forever. Stream the video below and get lost in these trippy visuals.
The video was made by Charlie Malave (Mucca Pazza, Al Scorch, Mr. and Mrs. Wednesday night) and pairs beautifully with the already exquisite track. Pick up It’s Awake on vinyl or digital formats via bandcamp and take a deeper dive into Big Syn.
You can catch the band live Tuesday, November 27th at The Hideout. The bill features Big Syn, Esther, and Fran. The show is free and sponsored by 312, RSVP via Facebook.
