Space Gators have been skillfully skirting the line between underground DIY darlings and Chicago’s next big thing for years now. Musically they invoke ’60s luminaries like The Kinks with elements of the ’90s psych-pop resurgence like The Apples in Stereo and The Dandy Warhols. You might not know them unless you happen to catch them live around town but the band is a who’s who of Midwesterners made up of members of Faux Furrs, Uma Bloo, Namorado, and more.
Today, we’re very excited to premiere a new single and video from the Gators and share with you a taste of their upcoming full-length album! The song “Is It Right? Is It Wrong?” was previously released as a demo back in 2017, but now it’s fully fleshed out and complete with a slick video to go with it. Watch it below:
The band’s roster is an all-star team of collaborators, but the Space Gators appearing in this video are: Ryan Deffet (Guitar, vocals), Mike Altergott (Keys), Ryan Parker (Guitar), Adam Karstens (Bass), and Alex Kociper (Drums).
The video stars Chicago actor/director Jon LeVert and was directed & edited by John TerEick and Jake Nokovic with Director of Photography Jake Brusha, and Colorist Jacob McKee.
The band is wrapping up their debut full-length album Intergalactic Swamp Songs, and it’s expected to surface later in the year. Until then, you can catch them live at Cole’s Bar on May 18th and at DZ Fest in July.
