Nebs is the solo project of Ben Kostecki, the bassist and vocalist of Engine Summer. Out of an interest in creating something different, Kostecki began to record under his solo moniker, Nebs. “Heard” is its first release.
In the video, dreamy visuals match Nebs’ dreamy sounds. The melody manages to be soft and driving at the same time, with his deep vocals lying on a bed of soft, reverb-y chords. The instrumentation is emotive, almost building a world in and of itself. “Heard” is nostalgic in a sort of unsettling–and very interesting–way. Censored handheld video footage from wedding season contrasts against intimate solo shots, creating the dystopian world that Nebs inhabits.
