The Peekaboos Help Stop Decay … with a new album!

Chicago’s quirky pop sweethearts are back with the long-awaited follow up to 2013’s Stay PositiveThe Peekaboos underwent a bit of lineup change last year but they’ve reemerged with a flood of new tunes and local guitar talents Ryan Ensley (of Sonny Falls) & Bryan Alvarez (of Post Child).

The album opens with the title track “Help Stop Decay” and the sweet, familiar vocals and tender guitar of Matt Muffin. “Microcosm” is a classic Peekaboos rocker with all the necessary lyrical nihilism and apathy that we’ve come to know them for.

So far my favorite is “Volim”, a ’90s throwback, Dinosaur Jr.-esque, little romp with a chorus that keeps you wanting more and more. It’s a borderline psychedelic-rock piece but without all the hippy-dippy shit. Hear it for yourself below.

The full album Help Stop Decay won’t be available until the fall but you can expect it on cassette via Dark Circles Records and on a Limited Edition flash drive via south suburban label DZ Records. It was recorded at DZ records by Ben Arguelles and Mastered by Carl Saff. Until then you can stream three tracks on the band’s bandcamp page and wait anxiously until the leaves change.
