White Mystery, Mutts, and more play RED BULL SOUND SELECT – 11/30

Coffee is generally the only “energy drink” in my diet, but unfortunately I’ve never seen Dunkin Donuts sponsor something like this. Red Bull on the other hand has spread their Red Bull Sound Select concert series around the globe, showcasing local talent anywhere and everywhere it can be found.

From Austin to Australia, and dozens of other locals, Red Bull has provided a stage for some great acts, big and small, from a wide range of genres. This weekend, the concert series makes its way to Chicago with an amazing lineup of local favorites, curated by local music & culture website, Do312.

Starting off the evening is Daniel Wade. Formerly a major part of the band Treaty of Paris, Wade now writes and records his own brand of powerful pop rock. He’s released two EPs this year and writes some undeniably catchy tunes. See for yourself:

Archie Powell & The Exports have managed to become a big part of the Chicago indie rock scene over the last few years. Their energetic live show and active stage presence has attracted loads of attention, and they’ve managed to share the bill will some pretty prominent acts.

Their latest album, Great Ideas In Action, released last year, is a solid piece of rock n’ roll. It’s no surprise they’re a part of this great event.

It would be an understatement to call Mutts “the hardest working musicians in Chicago”. Between touring and playing loads of local gigs, the band has booked over 150 shows this year (that’s a show every 2-3 days). With their third full-length, Object Permanence, released last April, the band has been as busy as ever.

These three guys are truly “Renaissance men”. Their songs range from melancholic piano driven epics that will make you weep to hard-hitting, energetic rock tunes that get your blood pumping and your foot tapping. Always a treat to see live, their performance is not to be missed.

Alex White has been a major figure in the Chicago garage rock scene for over a decade. Releasing her music through a variety of projects over the years (all of it fantastic), she can do no wrong in my book.

Since 2008, her and her brother, who goes by the stage name White Francis, have been making nothing but upbeat, fun garage rock under the moniker White Mystery. The red-headed duo released their fourth full length LP this year and are sounding better than ever. Look forward to hearing fast-driving, heavy shredding tunes like this one on Saturday night.

You’ll have two days to recover from your Thanksgiving hangovers and food comas, so there’s no excuse to miss this one. It all happens this Saturday at Double Door (1572 N Milwaukee Ave.) Doors open at 8:00pm, show at 8:45pm, 21+

Tickets at the door will cost you $10 but you can save a few bucks and RSVP for $3 tickets here. Keep in mind this event is still first come, first serve. Even with an RSVP you are not guaranteed a ticket, so try to get there before showtime. See you there.
