Chicago’s Michael Glader, through his musical endeavor Red Francis, has spent the last few years crafting a captivating blend of psychedelic soul and folk rock. The proof of time well spent manifests itself on Red Francis’ sophomore effort, When on High.
Released in the summer of 2012, When on High is a ten track ride through diverse inspirations that include blues, jazz, folk, soul, psych, and even reggae. Glader offers diversity with consistency however, as each track becomes a part of the whole effort. The result is a fulfilling piece that never wears out its welcome.
Album standouts include “Is This My Afterlife?”, “Big Spoon Little Spoon”, and the record’s fuzzy opening track “Strawberry Eyes”. You can pick up a handmade CD copy of When on High for $10 through Glader’s Bandcamp, or grab yourself a digital download for just $5.
The 21+ show starts at 8:00 PM this Thursday, 12/19. Doors for the Double Door (1572 N Milwaukee Ave) open up at 7:30 PM, and tickets will run you $7 online or at the door. The bill is loaded with local talent that includes opening sets by Abbi Rajasekhar, Roach Motel, Ghastly Menace, and Boston’s Croquet. Check out the event page on Facebook and RSVP if you’re headed out on Thursday night.
