From Chicago by way of Ann Arbor, Great Divide is a rock band heavily and happily influenced by blues, soul, funk, country, and everything in between. The result of this genre-blending rears its rootsy head on the group’s sophomore offering and self-titled LP.
If you’re unfamiliar with Great Divide, read on, and don’t miss your chance to see the group perform live at the Subterranean tomorrow night.
While the new album was released last March, I had the pleasure of seeing Great Divide live a little over a year earlier at the Congress Theater for the Chicago Bluegrass and Blues festival. Nearly zombified from 6+ hours of non-stop blues and bluegrass tunes, Great Divide caught my ear by the first few notes of their set and had my full attention by the end of the first song.
Things have been moving fast for the guys since the release of Great Divide, with slots at SXSW, Summerfest, Taste of Chicago, and a recent performance on the Artie Lange show. You can check out that video here, and watch the group perform the album’s lead track, “Ain’t No Roads” live at Chicago Recording Company, below.
You can pick up a copy of Great Divide’s s/t LP online for just $10, or better yet, grab a copy directly from the band tomorrow night.
The 17+ show, presented by Harmonica Dunn, kicks off tomorrow night, 11/22, at 9:00 PM. The Subt (2011 W North Ave) opens its doors at 8:00 PM, with Caleb Hawley and Chris Medina setting the stage for Great Divide. Tickets will run you $10 and can be picked up online in advance of the show via TicketWeb.
