What better way to kick-off your week than with another expertly booked show at The Empty Bottle. This Tuesday, locals Landmarks and Radar Eyes are performing alongside Austrailia’s Courtney Barnett. This is a line-up that promises good vibes right from the first note.
The atmosperic soundscapes of Chicago-based quintet, Landmarks, will lead off the evening. A wide range of effects, synths, and organs mix together on-stage, giving rise to deeply textured music. This is a band filled with great musicians that can beautifully transition from swirling, ambient jams to manic and noisy rock. Stream their 2013 release, Public House Recordings, below, and keep your eyes open for their forthcoming EP.
The dreaminess of Landmarks’ music will transition into Radar Eyes‘ set. Radar Eyes retains some of the same qualities as Landmarks, but with more driving guitar and garage rock goodness. Singer/guitarist Anthony Cozzi’s vocals are comparable to Paul Banks’ of Interpol, detached, ghostly, and distinct. Check out “Community” and “Fall Into Place”, released last month, below. For more Radar Eyes, check out our thoughts their third 7″ single, released on HoZaC, here.
Headlining this evening is the much-buzzed-about Courtney Barnett. She released The Double EP: A Sea Of Split Peas in October of 2013, and lead single, “Avant Gardener”, has already been dubbed ‘Best New Track’ by Pitchfork. Her delivery is deadpan and rambling, and gives way to some incredibly witty lyrics – calling to mind Malkmus’s work with Pavement.
Unfortunately, this show has already sold out, but if you were an early bird that caught the worm, maybe we will see you there! For those of you still holding out hope, the venue will have a limited number of tickets available when doors open the night of the show. They are first come, first serve, so plan ahead for success.
Doors are at 8:30PM; show at 9:00PM; 21+. For more details on the show, visit the Empty Bottle’s official event page.
