If you’re familiar with Chicago’s exceptional indie-folk scene, you’ve probably heard the name, Cavepainters. An all-original five-piece, Cavepainters utilizes some traditional folk instrumentation and vocal harmonies to craft their take on modern folk music.
Cavepainters brand of folk-rock feels refreshingly genuine at a time when it seems like more indie-rock bands have tacked “folk” onto their genre tags then those who haven’t.
This past September saw the release of the group’s latest effort and third album in as many years, For the Sea. Steering clear of the lyrical pitfalls that plague a lot of modern efforts in the genre, For the Sea balances a respect for the music’s rich past with a drive towards its future.
You can grab a digital copy of the LP through the group’s Bandcamp page, and check out the video for “Falling Leaves”, from For the Sea, below.
Cavepainters will be performing this Monday, 12/16 at the Burlington Bar at 3425 W Fullerton. The 21+ show starts at 8:00 PM and will cost you just $5 at the door. Brother Moose opens the show for Cavepainters with The Papers finishing out the night. Don’t forget to RSVP to the event page on Facebook and let them know you’re coming by.
