Do you want to relive the glory of a high school dance without all that teenage angst, social awkwardness, and lack of booze? Tomorrow night the Double Door is giving you that chance. Also, there’s no promises on the social awkwardness thing. So take an iron to that neglected dress shirt and a comb to your hair because it’s time for the Double Door Winter Formal.
This year’s Winter Formal features a best dressed competition, a photo booth, and music from Santah, Jonny Drake, and Brother George.
Opening the show is atmospheric indie-rockers, Santah. A Chicago group by way of Urbana, IL, Santah released their exceptional You’re Still A Lover EP in 2012. A follow-up to the 2011 full length, White Noise Bed, Lover‘s five tracks recently saw a 12″ vinyl release from Chicago’s Saki Records.
Following Santah, will be a set by Jonny Drake. Coming off of a year long hiatus, Drake recently finished work on Lovers, his neo-folk solo LP. The album’s first single, “Lies For No One”, shows off the strengths of simplicity in its ability to get into your head and stay there.
Rounding out the Winter Formal is indie rock band Brother George. Formed in 2007 after relocating to Chicago from St. Louis, the group has undergone a handful of line up changes in the last few years. Brother George’s 2012 full length, Big Piney, is an impressive array of indie rock set against moments of lyrical folk music and fuzzy garage rock.

The 21+ show starts tomorrow night at the Double Door (1572 N Milwaukee Ave) at 9:00 PM. Tickets will run you $15 at the door or just $10 online in advance of the show.
