Chicago Singles Club just celebrated their 1 year anniversary, and what a year it’s been. Once a month, CSC produces an exclusive, original recording and video interview with a different independent Chicago artist. Lucky for us they have pretty great taste.
As of lately, they’ve branched out into organizing shows with some of the fine local artists featured on the site. This Friday marks the very first “Fourth Friday”. Confusing sentences aside, the last Friday of every month, the folks at CSC will be handpicking the lineup at Cole’s Bar.
Starting the night off right is The Iceberg, an amazing new side project from the members of Absolutely Not & Sybris. Somewhat of a solo project, the band finds frontman Donnie Moore taking a departure from his usual high energy punk rock to explore a more toned down ambient/electronic sound. Still in their early stages, they’ve recently released a very strong 6-track cassette EP via Eye Vybe Records. Here’s a sample:
A self-described “steaming cauldron of Dusty Springfield, Animal Collective, Kimbra and Janis Joplin”, Natalie Grace Alford is all of those things and more. Her beats are fun & eclectic and her soulful voice absolutely lives up to those grandiose comparisons. We can’t stop listening to this track, and even if we did, it’s completely stuck in our heads anyway.
Closing the night out is Chicago’s best dance-punk outfit, Bring Your Ray Gun. If you weren’t dancing already, you will be by the time BYRG takes the stage. Imagine Straight-forward but catchy synth lines mixed with funky bass riffs, plenty of wah-wah and echo on the guitar and some sexy vocals on top. Or instead just listen to their self-titled EP and save your brain the work of imaging all of that. These songs are almost too damn danceable for their own good.
We’re always anxiously awaiting the newest Chicago Singles Club releases and this show gets us all tingly inside. What makes us tingle even more is that this Friday night dance party is absolutely FREE! Be there at 10pm on Friday, March 28th (and be at least 21 yrs old) and enjoy. In the meantime, go listen to more of these bands and polish up your dancing shoes.
