‘Tis the season for giving, and why not enjoy some music while you’re at it? Well, deck the halls, for The Noise FM is hosting the 3rd Annual Noise for Toys Benefit at Wicker Park’s Subterranean. Though the event is only in its third year in Chicago, the jolly happy souls of The Noise FM have been throwing N4T for six years, and have no plans of stopping.
This not-so-silent night features three bands in addition to The Noise FM: Chasing Mars, Board of Governors, and Blane Fonda. The benefit is slated to be a Christmas extravaganza with a Santa photobooth, ugly sweaters, Christmas decor, and of course the concert staple: booze. And lots of it.
The synth rock band, Chasing Mars, comes to you from the outskirts of Chicago. Their vocal melodies and glowing guitar riffs make their way to your ears drenched in lush keyboards and pulverizing drums.
Board of Governors is an ever-evolving band, formed in April 2009 from the partnership of Trevor Hougardy and John Marino. Both members were transplants to Illinois, met in the music scene, and continued to work together exploring the sounds of the Midwest. BOG’s music is energetic and riff-driven; modern hooks are infused with punk-inspired rhythms creating a heavy vintage appeal.
For as long as I’ve been digging into the Chicago music scene, Blane Fonda has been there with awesome music. As the story goes, the last rock beast’s single surviving egg found its way to the great city of Chicago; in 2009, the spirit of the rock beast split into five pieces and inhabited each member of the band. Thus Blame Fonda was born. This might sound farfetched, but there’s a whole video on it, narrated by a certain “Mr. Freeman”, so who are we to argue?
Blane Fonda’s music is powerful, electronic party-rock and is sure to get attendees movin’, shakin’, and lookin’ damn good in their ugly sweaters. Even jaded hipsters are powerless to it.
Just as Blane Fonda’s music will surely put you in a good mood, The Noise FM will keep you dancing. The Noise FM play melodic, beat-driven indie-rock. Brothers Alex and Austin Ward formed the band in Lawrence, Kansas but have since relocated to Chicago. They are set to release their full-length album, Attraction, worldwide at the beginning of 2014, but if you’d like a quick preview, we reviewed “Cooked Smile” from the LP here.
Tickets can be purchased in advance here; if you prefer to pay at the door, don’t forget to bring an unopened toy for half off the cover. Admission at the door is $10 or $5 with toy. All proceeds from the door will be donated to the Toys For Tots organization which provides families in need with toys during the holiday season.
If you’re in the mood to jingle bell rock, check out the event on Facebook, and RSVP too! Ages 17+.
