Self-described as a “genre-confused all-girl rock band”, Chicago’s One Wing Low recently released their debut EP, Little Tigers In Your House. Recorded and mixed at Caffeinated Recordings, the short 4-track EP clocks in at just over 15 minutes and never misses a beat. Though this may be their first official release, One Wing Low shares members with Chicago groups Soft Speaker and Deadlands.
Little Tigers In Your House kicks off with the type of jangly garage rock that you’d expect to hear while browsing the bins of a record shop in the ’90s. “Affair” finds vocalist Ashly Dalene channeling Garbage’s Shirley Manson and leading the fast, fun, and distorted track that quickly sets the tone for the rest of the EP.
The standout track for me is the reckless abandon anthem, “Warehouse Glitter”. The song’s driving bass leads straight into a chorus that just begs for call and answer and dares you not to chant along.
With its third track, “Bones”, Little Tigers takes a darker turn as steady, pounding drums set the stage for dream-like guitar and eerie keys. “Ignite” picks up the tempo from “Warehouse Glitter” while maintaining the darker tones of “Bones”. The understated vocals in the verse pave the way for the energetic chorus and it’s mantra-like line: “We ingite”.
Little Tigers In Your House is currently available as a digital download through One Wing Low’s Bandcamp. Even though it’s set to “name your price”, we highly recommend throwing a few bucks down – this EP is well worth it.
Little Tigers In Your House is getting its official release treatment tomorrow night at Jerry’s in Wicker Park – 1938 W Division St. Sharing the bill with Soft Speaker, the show starts at 9:00 PM and is totally free!
