A little under a year since a remarkable debut full-length, Way Down Deep, Angela James is back with new music. “In Between” is the first track from a forthcoming LP titled Time Will Tell, which is set for release in early 2016.
On “In Between” James is joined by regular contributors Jordan Martins (electric bass and pedal steel) and Charles Rumback (drums), as well as new collaborators Ben Boyle (piano and organ) and Fred Lonberg-Holm (cello). The quintet comes together in gorgeous fashion, exhibiting the same kind of sprezzatura captured on Way Down Deep. James gives the song a vocal performance that’s both inspiring and melancholy, and Lonberg-Holm’s cello howls and swoons like some hulking, rusting ship passing through a heavy fog.
We invite you to enjoy the video for “In Between” (filmed and directed by Martins) and, if you’re in or around Chicago, to see Angela James at Constellation on Friday, September 11th. Details below.
