Intimate, minimal, thoughtful; all words that describe Liam McCormack’s singer-songwriter project, yellowbirddd, and his new single “Who Is Your Lover?”. The best part (next to the song’s “playful, I’m-ok-without-you perspective,” as McCormack accurately describes it) is that the song is currently streaming exclusively with Midwest Action!
This catchy, acoustic guitar-driven tune and its honest look at breaking up is featured on yellowbirddd’s fourth album, CENTINELA, to be released on December 2nd with Buffalo, New York’s flower/four records. Of the upcoming album, Liam states:
For me, CENTINELA represents a new chapter in my life, a new understanding, an updated perspective. Personal growth, inward and outward. The new scenery and vibe of California. Looking back at past places and people in my life, and looking at myself in the present.
“Who Is Your Lover?” is a pretty classic post-breakup song. I think the music and lyrics come at the subject from a more playful and I’m-ok-without-you perspective, but there is also an honesty and realness present where the lingering heartache speaks.
yellowbirddd’s special connection to the Midwest starts with dining at Monical’s Pizza and playing music around a country bonfire in the small town of Manteno, Illinois, one of Midwest Action’s first makeshift concerts. Since then, Liam has bounced from cities on both coasts and crisscrossed the country on his relentless tour travels; playing all kinds of Midwest towns and venues. This ultimately sparked his love-affair with Chicago and his beloved nylon string guitar, courtesy of Old Town School of Folk Music.
As for yellowbirddd’s “Who Is Your Lover?”, I won’t be running from it anytime soon. If anything, the song will be on repeat.
