New Music Roundup – August 9

It can be straight-up overwhelming to find music. There is a constant bombardment of premieres, album announcements, and new releases that come weekly. You have no idea where to turn to. I’m going to try to highlight whatever recent local releases I’m currently stoked on that I believe is worth your time. Enjoy!

Cheap Vacation – S/T

Out of the remains of Sore History, Cheap Vacation has risen to satisfy all of your fuzzy power-pop needs, but with some additional tweaks. Matthew Hess now is the lone guitar player and singer, while Will is now the bassist.

Simply put, this lil six song release is no frills power pop, with a little one minute pop punk banger mushed in. It feels well balanced. The guitars are pleasant in all of their mush and fuzz. They don’t overpower the mix, allowing Hess’s vocals to still be highlighted. It’s a nice succinct introduction to a brand spanking new band.

FFO: Buffalo Tom, Lemonheads, Ovlov
Local Comparison: Pacemaker
