MWA Approved: Swale Music Fest – June 8

On Saturday, June 8, second annual Swale Music Fest–hosted by the Michigan City Mainstreet Association–will take over Michigan City, Indiana.  This diverse festival boasts a lineup of over 25 local, regional, and national acts alongside a fine selection of art vendors and craft beer from Michigan City’s local breweries.

We, of course, are most excited for the music. There are a whopping twenty-five acts booked for the single day festival, which means you can expect a day filled to the brim with tunes. Here are a few acts you can’t miss:

Sirius Blvck

Rounding out Swale’s rap offering is veteran of the Indianapolis hip-hop scene, Sirius Blvck. His Moon Talk EP was released a few short months ago, in March of 2019, and we’re excited for him to bring his DIY ethic to the stage.

Zigtebra

It’s no secret that we have a major crush on Chicago’s Zigtebra. The electropop duo has made a career of touring the country, and their finely tuned performance is sure to draw you in.

LUNG

Hailing from Cincinnati, sinister rock duo LUNG will take the Swale Music Fest stage. The group absolutely rocks with a stripped down ensemble of electric cello, vocals, and drums.

Glitter Moneyyy

Chicago’s Glitter Moneyyy are hopping one state over to bring their unapologetically crass, politically charged rap to Swale Music Fest. Their songs beg you to sing along with them–if you’re brave enough. This set might not be for the kiddos, but it’s definitely for everyone else.

Tigershark Don’t Quit

Hometown outfit Tigershark Don’t Quit will kick your ass from start to finish with their high-energy, guitar-driven garage rock. We only hope to hear more than the three songs the band currently has online.

Scary Women

Hailing from Lansing are punk rockers Scary Women. Growling vocals sit on top of steady drum beats and meandering guitar licks. If they bring the energy of their recordings to Swale, we’re in for a treat.

Anchors

Anchors, of Valparaiso, bring a certain type of emo-tinged shoegaze to Swale Music Fest’s stage. Their last album, Save The Empire, is filled with atmospheric guitar swells, complex melodies, and big choruses. Since its March 2016 release, we can only assume they’ve spent following three years perfecting the live execution of the songs for Swale.

In This Style

In This Style mix heavy rock influences with psychedelic touches, with the cherry on top being epic guitar solos and killer vocals. The outfit released their debut album, Craft, on April 20th of this year, and we’re looking forward to hearing these tracks while they’re still pipin’ hot.

Swale Music Fest is one quick train ride away from Chicago, and one full day of music from all over the Midwest. The festival did an incredible job booking a diverse line-up, both in genre and geographics. There’s nothing like spending a day in the sun drinking beer and listening to music, and Swale delivers on all fronts.
