Having spent time in both Chicago, and Illinois’ smaller rural towns, Rebecca Rego is uniquely qualified to write about the two distinct aspects of Midwestern life. Coupled with honest storytelling and set against beautiful folk instrumentation, Rebecca Rego & The Trainmen bring sincerity and experience to their new album, Tolono.
Originally from Wisconsin, Rego met The Trainmen – Matt Yeates, Eric Fitts, and Cory Ponton – in Kankakee, IL in 2012. With the help of local musicians, Tolono was recorded live to analog tape over just three days in the Illinois train town from which it gets its name.
Released two weeks ago today, Tolono will be getting an official CD release party in Chicago this Thursday. Check out the album’s first single, “John Wayne”, below.
The release show kicks off at 9:00 PM this Thursday, 2/27, at the Hideout – 1354 W Wabansia Ave. Rebecca Rego will be joined on the bill by Miles Nielsen & The Rusted Hearts. Tickets are $10 and can be picked up online or at the door before the show.
