You may have missed him last time he graced Chicago with his presence but Milwaukee native Myles Coyne is a name you should know by now if you’re into DIY culture and folk music. Last August he made the drive down I-94 to perform at Lincoln Hall on a Thursday night. Accompanied by Jordan Maye, one of many members of Myles Coyne & The Rusty Nickel Band, the duo put on an intimate set of some of Myles’ best. This set was a nice departure from the full Rusty Nickel experience.
Stripping the band down to guitar, vocals, and mandolin offered up a simplicity that allowed the audience to connect to the music on an even more personal level. There was just a large stage and two talented musicians. You were forced to listen to the songs word for word and note for note- very different from the usual high energy rock show format.
Supporting Myles on the bill were The Way Down Wanderers, a Peoria based folk band who provided plenty of energy and excitement. Check out our photo set from the evening and catch Myles live at one of his upcoming Midwestern tour dates opening for one of his many other musical endeavors LADDERS.
