2012 marked the release of Chicago-based hip-hop group, Sidewalk Chalk‘s debut album. Corner Store earned multiple positive reviews, and afforded the band many more opportunities to show off their unique sound in the years to come.
2014 will bring us the octet’s long awaited follow-up record. This February, their sophomore album will drop, and to hold us over the band has released the first single from the LP.
“There She Goes” is exactly what we were hoping it would be. It picks up right where Corner Store left off, with horn grooves, sexy keys, and soulful vocals. The group successfully merges a diverse range of influences into one smooth hip-hop track. Salsa-influenced keys carry the song from beginning to end, and tie the whole thing together.
The song comes to an abrupt end, repeating the same lines that led the song in. It’s a tight, catchy track, dripping with soul, gorgeous vocals, and perfectly rhythmic lyrics.
“There She Goes” premieres in advance of the octet’s sophomore album, Leaves, set to be released on February 25th. In the meantime, stream the song on Soundcloud along with their debut album Corner Store. Or even better, see them live. They have a slew of shows approaching, and trust us, you wont want to miss the band voted Chicago Reader’s “Best Local Hip-Hop Artist“.
