There are a ton of ways to kick the mid-winter blues in Chicago: explore the Garfield Park Conservatory, have a mid-week luau at Lost Lake, or soak in “Soft Feeling,” the first video from Dan Rico’s self-titled solo debut. The album was part of a prolific year for the producer/multi-instrumentalist: along with recording and mixing the excellent Vamos LP Spiderbait, Rico plays with psych punks Ego, who completed their twelve tapes in twelve months Zodiac Cycle project while also releasing the full-length burner Economy in August.
MWA-favorite Emily Esperanza directed “Soft Feeling,” blending sandy dunes, crashing waves and sun-drenched skies with the song’s jaunty, love-drunk melody. Rico’s croons tremble with desperation and aching sincerity, a perfect match for his sweet, simple lyrics. This is classic summer lovin’ music, no matter the season.
“Soft Feeling” is the first single off Rico’s album, which came out on cassette via Maximum Pelt in 2015 (and will see a vinyl release later this year). Don’t wanna wait for the wax? Snag yourself a digital copy on Bandcamp.
