“Car Alarm” starts with a deep breath and punchy vocal delivery, something I’m not quite used to with Chicago mainstay V.V. Lightbody, but I dig it. Soft snares and meandering guitar back V.V. Lightbody’s chorus as she explores topics of death through her lyricism. On Bathing Peach, McConnell dubbed her music as “nap rock.” Though this newest track is far more awake than her previous material, its general grooviness and lyrical content might still force us to call it “eternal nap rock” instead.
We’re even graced with a guitar solo that can only be described as “hot hot hot.” The solo has this classic feel to it, and it’s been gifted to us by Vivian’s longtime friend and collaborator, Evan Metz.
