It’s October, and Chicago’s Elk Walking are getting into the Halloween spirit by treating us with not one, but two, new singles. In August of 2017, the outfit released their full length, Between Us. Today’s new tracks are not part of an upcoming album–although the band is sitting on a healthy stock of unreleased material–but instead standalone releases. It’s a treat even better than the house that gives away full candy bars.
“Walk Away”, featuring vocals by Julian Daniell, is first led and then backed by acoustic guitar with Savanna’s backing vocals. They trade duties for “Molly”, with enchanting lead vocals by Savanna. It’s kind of slow and swooning, with lap steel guitar that really pulls it all together. “Walk Away” is Elk Walking’s steady, dependable rocker, whereas “Molly” feels a little more melancholy. Each leans towards the country genre, but decidedly stay in their indie rock lanes.
