Not much is known about Chicago’s skul.kid aside from the three-track EP dropped earlier this year. “Paloma,” the first track off of debut EP, Dove Songs, is gripping in its simplicity. In this stripped down track, a steady acoustic and tambourine cadence follow singer Chace Wall’s falsetto. It’s a thoughtful and deliberate song, sounding as warm as the amber-toned visuals in my head. It’s as if Fleet Foxes broke up with their vocal harmonies and professional production, and then wrote about that heartbreak. “Paloma” is beautiful in its melancholy, leaving me feeling that heartbreak right alongside skul.kid.
Listen to “Paloma” today, and pick up Dove Songs, skul.kid’s debut three track EP, at the Midwest Action store.
