Give It a Spin: “Left Lane Lovers” by The Outside Voices – Song Premiere

A twangy guitar, an airtight rhythm section, and strong vocal harmonies–all that’s missing is a warm summer breeze. Today, Ohio natives The Outside Voices are premiering their latest track, “Left Lane Lovers,” exclusively on Midwest Action. Needless to say, it’s everything I’d expected from the rustbelt rockers.

“Left Lane Lovers” feels like a traditional country song, and with the addition of Stephen “Tebbs” Karney on pedal steel, it makes all too much sense why. The song leans into the band’s love of classic country while embracing their familiarity with roots-driven rock & roll. Americana-tinged guitar solos are woven throughout the track, moving it forward in parts where the vocals briefly retreat and keeping the composition interesting.

Give “Left Lane Lovers” a spin below:

Speaking of “Left Lane Lovers” in a press release, frontman John Patrick Halling explained,

I’ve always been a hopeless romantic with a strong affection for impulsive decisions. More often than not, that’s a recipe for disaster, but I still like to believe the fall is always worth the landing. “Left Lane Lovers” touches on the uncertainty which comes with such decisions as the brain races to catch up to the heart. It’s a tale of two people coming to terms with the fact that, despite their best efforts, they’re no longer heading in the same direction.

The Outside Voices is independently releasing their upcoming album, Stone & Lonely, on March 1st in Akron. They soon kick off an ambitious tour, heading east and south before swinging through for a handful of Midwest dates.
