Chicago’s Chicken Happen are more than just a clever name. The band has been active since 2010 and combine equal parts pop, grunge, and a dash of punk into one hell of a fun band. They channel the likes of ’90s acts like L7 and Nirvana but bring a less aggressive and more melodic approach to their songs with plenty of gang vocals and catchy guitar riffs to keep you wanting more.
“Lazy” is the first single from their upcoming album, Burn in the USA, and it’s a ripper. The song is an all too familiar tale about when you know there are things you want to get accomplished but all you do is sit around and waste time watching tv and make excuses for yourself about why you’re not where you want to be. We can all get back to doing that very soon, but first get off your ass and listen to this damn song.
The band is made up of Lilly Choi (Vox/Guitar), Mark Gianforte (Backup Vox/Lead Guitar), and Zack Hjelmstad (Backup Vox/Bass), with Jon Olson playing drums on this self-recorded album (mastered by Joe Gac of Meat Wave). The full-length album is out on Monday, March 11th but until then you can stream “Lazy” to your hearts content!
You can pick up the rest of the album and see the band live at their official release show at the Empty Bottle on March 11th (FREE MONDAY!). The lineup features Drilling For Blasting and Tinkerbelles, RSVP via Facebook.
