Chicago native, songwriter, and performer, Steven Gilpin, is rebranding himself under the moniker Torso, with a whole new album out today and a release show tonight at the Den Theatre. Hair of the Dog is an indie-folk labor of love filled with guitar, ukulele, and banjo—all of it written and performed by Steven himself (minus a guest player or two.)
The first single, “Get Along”, is a tender and intimate affair about love and loss (like most good folk tunes are). The song opens simply enough with Steven’s voice and acoustic guitar but slowly builds to include banjo (courtesy of Erik Cameron) and a killer harmonica break (thanks to John Saller.)
