Earlier this month, Mitch McLaughlin, a singer-songwriter from the South Suburbs of Chicago, released Mitch McLaughlin is My Best Friend – a four track acoustic EP. Although still in high school, McLaughlin’s music is decidedly mature, and you can get the full experience of it from the EP’s standout track, “Dove”.
While the entire EP acts as a vehicle for McLaughlin’s storytelling, “Dove” showcases his ability to create strong and significant vocal melodies. The track benefits from being a bit rough around the edges as it opens its accessibility and encourages a more personal connection with the material. “Dove” is a strong and undeniably catchy acoustic song from a young musician that I hope to hear more from in the future.
Take a listen to “Dove” above, and be sure to check out the rest of the Mitch McLaughlin is My Best Friend EP on Bandcamp. You can catch McLaughlin at Mojoes of Joliet this Sunday, 3/2 – grab all the details here.
